We were hoping there was more lingerie in the seasons of Mad men, because there wasn't enough at all shown. The lingerie these women deploy just to sleep in are aesthetic achievements as intricate as what they wear out of bed. We are talking about the bras, corsets, girdles, garter belts, slips, corsets, and of course the nightgowns. Today, the closest we get to rocking Mad Men style is usually the looks from Don's whorehouse flashbacks.

Mad Men Vintage Lingerie Betty Draper Corset For Sale

Betty Draper aka January Jones infamous corset, by Lady Marlene in their "Baby Doll" line.

Mad Men, Betty Draper, the character who is portrayed by January Jones wore a corset that was just to die for. Featured in a very early episode of  the first season.

 After following and keeping up with the trends on Mad Men, mostly the lingerie to see if they get it right (for the era's). They were spot on with this. Season one takes place between March and November 1960. This corset/bra/panty all in one, better known as Panty Bra-s'Lette by Lady Marlene and called "Baby Doll". The magazine ad is from 1959.

Definitely NOT Mad Men Vintage Style Lingerie

Can't blame a gal for trying. Janie Bryant, the costume designer for the hit TV series Mad Men has collaborated with Maidenform as a wardrobe expert to help educate women by offering flattering fit and styling tips.Which is fine! Wonderful! However, I was truly disappointed that the intimates created were nothing like the vintage 1960's style we all love and adore.

Banana Republic, Kate Spade and Very.co.uk have all launched Mad Men-inspired ranges, and the original costumes from the series were sold on eBay... However, Maidenform are the first to encourage us to buy Sixties-style flattering lingerie.

Janie Bryant, Mad Men's costume designer, has collaborated with Maidenform. This is the company's latest range, the Pretty Collection. Me? Personally? Looks like Victoria's Secret all over again. Not a hint of vintage inspiration.

During the second season of Mad Men, there was an episode that included a Maidenform advertising campaign. Bryant said, "I was inspired to look at some of Maidenform's iconic ads for my book, The Fashion File. 'Upon our initial meeting, we had shared passions in everything intimate apparel and the rest is history." Maidenform CEO Maurice Reznik added: 'Enlisting the expertise of Ms. Bryant gives our consumers professional advice from the world of celebrity wardrobing and stresses the importance of the role intimate apparel plays in the foundation of fashion.

The company's latest range, The Pretty Shapewear Collection, blends Sixties comfort and glamour. It also pairs expensive-looking fabrics such as eye lash lace with Maidenform's trademark built in firm control. Betty and Peggy would definitely approve. I certainly do not.
